Am I a good candidate for minimally invasive surgery?
Generally, individuals who are fit, healthy, and have fewer pre-existing medical conditions are the best candidates for minimally invasive surgery.
People with very high body mass index (BMI) are often not good candidates for this type of procedure. Lower BMIs allow smaller incisions. Body mass index is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women.
Previous surgeries and extensive scarring make muscle sparring procedures more difficult; however, even in these patients, tissue trauma can be reduced through meticulous surgical technique.
While it may not be possible to perform a muscle sparring approach in all instances, we can often still use minimally invasive techniques.
